January 13, 2022Every Cannabinoid is Unique!
As research continues to expand on cannabis plants, we are learning more and more every day! As many of us already know, there are hundreds of different chemicals within cannabis plants that have shown potential wellness benefits. These chemicals, known as cannabinoids, are each unique in their own way and offer different uses when focused on individually.
CBD happens to be one of the most versatile of the bunch in terms of potential uses. Hence the wide variety of CBD-focused products on the market. However, some believe that when it comes to cannabinoids, the more the merrier. This is called the Entourage Effect. With this effect in mind, many customers regularly utilize multiple cannabinoids at once to achieve their personal wellness goals. Here at Infinite CBD, we’ve spent years exploring different formulations that combine cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial actives to address our customers’ most common use cases — Wellness, Focus, Energy and Relaxation.
It can be confusing to try and understand all the different chemicals, terms and acronyms being thrown around in the industry. Let’s explore some of the most well-known cannabinoids to give you a better understanding of what’s out there and what the cannabis plant is capable of!
How Many Cannabinoids Are There?
As we mentioned before, there are over 100 known cannabinoids within the cannabis plant. Keep in mind, this includes both the hemp and marijuana plant – both members of the cannabis family. While each of these plants produces differing cannabinoid levels and concentration, they still produce the same basic variety of cannabinoids.
All cannabinoids are processed through the Endocannabinoid System — a vast body system of chemical signals and receptors responsible for regulating our heath to help us reach andinfinitecbd.com/…/what-is-the-endocannabinoid-system maintain homeostasis. Today, we are going to focus on the most popular cannabinoids in the industry thus far including THC, CBD, CBN, CBG and finally Delta-8 (a THC variant).
So, What’s The Difference?
THC
Arguably the most popular cannabinoid, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) has been made famous for its psychoactive effects and potential value in addressing wellness concerns. This cannabinoid is a crystalline compound that has not only acted as the main active ingredient in marijuana-based products, but it has been utilized in almost every way you can imagine – from gummies to bath bombs.
CBD
As you may have guessed, CBD (cannabidiol) is our absolute favorite cannabinoid! Truly versatile, CBD is virtually tasteless as an isolate. It is naturally non-psychoactive, meaning that you can still go about your daily activities without disruption — all while enjoying the well-rounded benefits of the cannabis plant.
CBN
In higher quantities, CBN (cannabinol) can be mildly psychoactive. However, it is this mild psychoactive effect that makes this cannabinoid so perfect for those who seek assistance with regulating their sleep schedule. Some customers have called the effects of this cannabinoid “mildly sedative and highly effective.” When paired with other cannabinoids, like CBD, this compound becomes a perfect natural pathway for a deep and restful sleep.
CBG
A great choice for promoting gut health and comfort, CBG (cannabigerol) is rising in popularity within the cannabis industry. When isolated, CBG is known to be as undetectable as CBD which makes it that much easier to formulate into products that customers love.
Delta-8
Technically, Delta-8 is a genetic sibling to THC. At times, industry experts actually refer to traditional THC as “delta-9.” Delta-8 is found in both cannabis and hemp plants and can produce a psychoactive “high” that some customers enjoy. When it comes to the legality of Delta-8, there is a lot of work to be done. Although you can extract this from the hemp plant, the FDA and state regulations around the country have criminalized the distribution of this cannabinoid.
What Do We Know About the Other Cannabinoids?
Current research has given us a fair understanding of the unique properties within many cannabinoids. However, we are far from understanding 100% of the cannabis plant. One of the most difficult hurdles throughout this research is navigating the legality of cannabis studies. It will take hundreds if not thousands of patient-based trials to truly begin comprehending each individual chemical. Unfortunately, given current federal and state level limitations, this kind of research is years away.
