We all know that smoking cigarettes is not good for the human body. Your doctors, your mom, your significant other and maybe even your neighbor has told you to quit smoking cigarettes. CBD has the same characteristics as THC but does not contain the psychoactive properties. It is common to have knowledge that CBD has an anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, and an anti-tumor effect. Although these effects are great, consuming CBD is also beneficial to you and your body in ways that you might not have thought of.
Cigarettes and CBD
In a study by the University College London, 24 participants ranging from 18-35 year-old were the target of a study to see if low-doses of CBD would help individuals who smoke cigarettes quit and kick nicotine addiction.
- 12 male, 12 female
- Smoke at least 10 cigarettes a day
- Goal to eliminate nicotine addiction
The 24 participants are split into two groups. One group had a CBD inhaler while the other half had the consumption of a placebo inhaler. Before the study, participants kept track of how many cigarettes they smoked within the week. When feeling a craving for nicotine the participants were to take a puff of their inhaler. While keeping record of how many cigarettes they smoked and how many times they took a puff of the inhaler.
The results show that the group who took CBD had a reduction in the amount of cigarettes one smokes after one week. Without an increase in cravings, CBD helped participants reduce cigarette consumption by 40 percent.
At first, the preliminary results of the study suggest CBD helps to reduce the amount of cigarettes one smokes. After a longer period of time another follow-up was done. 21 days after the study was complete participants had reports that the need for nicotine was back.
