Specifically, CBD may hold promise for REM sleep behavior disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness, according to Springer Current Psychiatry Reports. In additional, in a recent rat study, it was found that CBD modulates sleep. The findings of this study consist of CBD’s ability to modulate waking and induce alertness. Therefore, researchers conclude that CBD impacts insomnia which is therapeutically beneficial for people with sleep disorders like insomnia and/or excessive somnolence.
Additional Research Findings on CBD and Insomnia
On the same note, additional research findings have pointed to reasons why CBD impacts insomnia and insomnia-like symptoms. From one male rat study, researchers found that CBD contains a wide spectrum of action, which includes its effects in the body’s sleep-wake cycles. The study focused on administering CBD during the light and dark periods of the day. Post-CBD administration, researchers concluded that the systemic acute administration of CBD increased total sleep time. The administration of CBD also increased sleep latency in the light period of the day of CBD administration.
Also, CBD impacts insomnia and other similar symptoms because in another study it was found that endocannabinoid signaling regulates sleep stability. This shows the potential of CBD naturally treating insomnia and variations of it. However, as briefly mentioned above, there are many different causes of insomnia such as anxiety and depression. In many cases, anxiety and sleep disorders are the result of PTSD and other forms of trauma.
Recently, CBD and CBD oil have become an increasingly popular treatment for both anxiety and different sleep disorders, as mentioned by the National Institute of Mental Health. A case study conducted by the same organization provides clinical data that supports the usage of CBD oil as a safe treatment for reducing anxiety and for improving sleep. Sleeping pills can even be habit-forming, which can then become difficult to stop taking them.
