CBD Helps When You Get Too High

While THC is beneficial to many people, there’s nothing worse than getting too high. Interestingly enough, because CBD is THC’s non-psychoactive counterpart, it seems as though CBD can help when you get too high. Let’s figure it out, once and for all because it’s true: CBD helps when you get too high.

CBD vs. THC

Over 100 cannabinoids have been discovered in the cannabis plant. While scientists are still trying to discover each other their unique functions and benefits, we do know quite a bit about THC and CBD.

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, was discovered by cannabis researcher Raphael Mechoulam in the 1940s. He was also the first person to isolate the THC molecule, which happened in the same decade. Since then, scientists have been quietly studying the impact of THC on the endocannabinoid system, it’s psychoactive effects and its application to pharmacology.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, was also discovered in the 1940s. Through the 1960s society was very aware of the cannabis movement, but wasn’t aware of CBD. Why? Because CBD is nonpsychoactive. More so than ever before, nonpsychoactive CBD is solidifying its position in medical applications and its day-to-day benefits.

CBD and THC are very different. As the medical and recreation THC movements have spread across the US, it’s led us to question what role CBD plays in this cultural movement and on a use-by-use basis.

“Getting too High” is Common

Due to legalization efforts, THC no longer carries the same stigma that it once did. More than ever before, people are visiting dispensaries, buying cannabis, and trying it for the first time. Now that cannabis is legal in some states, cannabis is now grown to be strong, with some strains even containing more than 20% THC.

What does this mean for consumers?

“Getting too high” has become a common occurrence. In fact, in Colorado alone, visits to emergency rooms have sky-rocketed because of cannabis-related tourism. This is a big deal because visits have risen by the 10s of thousands of people, particularly visitors from out of state. This has resulted in higher emergency room costs and the need for additional staff in dozens of centralized Colorado emergency rooms.

CBD Helps When You Get Too High

While “getting too high” can’t actually hurt you, it isn’t pleasant. Luckily, CBD helps when you get too high.

While THC interacts with the body using psychoactive mechanisms, CBD does not. CBD has been found to subdue the nervous system by lowering anxiety, which is a common and sometimes alarming system of “getting too high.” Because of CBD’s calming effects, this cannabinoid balances out some of the less than wonderful effects of THC consumption.

Getting High? Have Some CBD On Hand

If you haven’t consumed THC in a while, it’s important to have some CBD on hand. Getting high is great, and THC has numerous benefits, but there’s nothing worse than getting too high. CBD helps when you get to high, so have it around. Better safe than sorry, right?
